To format the drive type in Clear-Disk -Number X -RemoveData replacing X with your drive number. Our thumb drive can be identified as 2, the number we need to know going forward. By default, Windows computers will choose NTFS (New Technology File System) for you because that’s the native Microsoft filing system. Right-click on the external hard drive and click Format. The existing operating system can be repaired or reinstalled from the recovery mode. Formatting your drive will wipe out all the data in it. It can be used exactly the same as if a live disk copy of Pop!_OS was booted from a USB drive.
